A month after the Android app release, Google Analytics put their money where their mouth is and released the iOS GA app last week. Now you can check your site performance in real-time on just about any of your mobile devices, including iPhone (it’s optimized for iPhone 5!), iPad, iPod Touch and Android.
A long-standing GA partner, we spoke with Jesse Nichols of Google Analytics Premium, Industry Solutions & Partnerships, to get the scoop on the app.
"The updated Google Analytics app brings nearly the full functionality of our web app to your phone or tablet,” he stated, “with over a million downloads, this app has proven indispensable for anyone who wants quick access to key metrics while in a meeting or on the go."
One of the biggest advantages of this app is that almost all of the data that’s available in the desktop version is accessible via the mobile app. The friendly interface allows the user to swipe to access multiple reports and dashboards at once. Many of the desktop functionalities, including default segmentation, custom report creation, goal alerts and the ability to choose different metrics for a dimension are readily available in the app.
Being a GAP-certified partner, we’ve worked with many clients who sought for the ease of accessibility that would come with a mobile app. In its first release, like almost any other app, it does have its drawbacks though. In my experience, a feature that makes Google Analytics so easy to use is the search functionality for reports. This option is ominously missing from the left pane menu. It’s not a deal-breaker but it is something to be aware of when you’re trying to find a specific report sans search. Now where is that Site Speed report…
