A common challenge with international travel is the ability to speak the same language as the locals. If you have this ability, it can open the door to deeper connections, as well as a more memorable experience. If you do not have this ability, you may often find yourself playing a guessing game.
Several of our clients have found themselves in a comparable situation. When efforts were directed toward the launch of new digital personalization and optimization projects, some found themselves at a bit of a roadblock. For example, to understand when certain visitors were in a test, as well as which test they were in, the testing platform – Monetate – and the reporting platform – SiteCatalyst – had to speak the same language. That is, to really analyze testing data, it has to be referenced in a reporting dashboard.
As analysts and consultants, this disconnect has made data analysis more difficult. However, the correlation between language barriers and tools that don’t speak to each other got us thinking - when it comes to ensuring your devices work overseas, a plug that quickly converts your devices to be compatible with international power grids can make a huge difference. We took this idea and created a solution for our clients to ensure two commonly used platforms were able to speak to each other properly: enter the Monetate-SiteCatalyst plugin.
Streamlining the conversation
The Monetate-SiteCatalyst plugin is a distinctive tool that enables the transmission of Monetate campaign variables into SiteCatalyst for inclusion throughout your reporting and marketing analysis.
At the most basic level, this means that Monetate campaign names, campaign IDs, and campaign variant names will be passed into SiteCatalyst, creating a single place of record for all your marketing activities. Furthermore, combining Monetate campaign metadata with your other digital data contained in SiteCatalyst will open a whole host of possibilities for analyzing campaign performance in the larger context of your marketing goals.
The plugin starts by enabling a reporting option within the Monetate UI. This setting will load a data object of the specified Monetate metadata on the first page load of a campaign. A handler is then setup within the tag management system to pick-up the variables and include them into a SiteCatalyst request.
The last piece requires configuring s.props within the SiteCatalyst admin UI. Once the plugin is powered up, you can start reporting out on campaigns directly or setup visitor segments based off campaign targeting. Ultimately, the plugin will crush a language barrier between Monetate and SiteCatalyst, allowing you to analyze and report on the most accurate data.

Similarly to breaking global language barriers, our Monetate-SiteCatalyst plugin allows our clients to have a two-way conversation without the more common hurdles. You’ll not only be able to see when targeted visitors are in a particular test, which test they are in, and the variants of each test, you’ll be able to reference any test right in your SiteCatalyst Dashboard.
